Dear Parents and Carers of Good Samaritan,
With the busyness of school life continuing this term it is hard to believe that this time last year we were well into a COVID-19 lockdown and remote learning. How quickly we get back into the swing of things in a school!
Week 10 of this term will, unfortunately, see Good Samaritan students and our friends at St Brigid’s Gwynneville, return to remote learning due to the UCI Bike Race and the many road closures around the school affecting access. Please be reminded that no one will be on the school site during this time. Our school staff are currently planning for learning in week 10. Whilst remote learning may seem ‘easy enough’ to switch to in the minds of some, it actually takes a lot of planning and time to change the platform of learning within a school.
For those students and families who have previously experienced remote learning at Good Samaritan the structure will be very similar. More information will be forthcoming which will explain how students will access learning during this time.
This week is Screen Aware Week. It’s that opportunity for us to revise our expectations for the use of devices in classrooms and at school. It is also an opportunity for students to be aware of how much time they are spending on screens. This short eSafety video for parents outlines some easy things that you can do to help your child stay safe online. The eSafety commissioner has a huge range of resources available for parents and families to access. I would definitely recommend visiting this site to remain informed.
As we journey together, with Jesus, this week,
Toni Sillis
Principal
Our School Captain, Bonnie, recently had the opportunity to read at her younger cousin’s daycare centre for Book Week. The children loved having Bonnie read to them with some of the young listeners attending Kindergarten at Good Samaritan in 2023.
On Wednesday 14 September, we will celebrate our 10 Year Anniversary with a mass. Special guests, including Peter Hill - Director of Schools - will be in attendance at the mass. Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Brian Mascord.
All parents are welcome to attend the mass commencing at 9:30am. Mass will be followed by a morning tea for all guests in the hall.
Good Samaritan boys and girls will then enjoy a fun day which has been supported by our generous P&F. The students will participate in activity rotations including PuttPutt Golf, a disco and many more fun filled activities. Year 6 are working hard to organise the day.
The day will be a chance to thank the students for their commitment to our wonderful school community.
We look forward to celebrating 10 Years of Good Samaritan together throughout this week.
The day will conclude with the usual dismissal at 3pm.
The seasons are starting to change and, as is custom at GSFM, following Father’s Day students are able to begin to wear their Summer uniform. This is always done at parents’ discretion based on the weather each day.
Thank you for supporting our Good Samaritan Uniform policy and expectations.
There’s fantastic prizes to be won this year in the P&F Father’s Day Raffle.
Have you returned your tickets yet?

NAPLAN results have been released this week. Parents of Years 3 and 5 students will receive their child’s report by the end of the week.
NAPLAN provides a national evidence base consistent across states and territories, contributing to the monitoring and evaluation of student progress and outcomes. The data from the assessments helps to inform teaching and learning programs. This information complements teacher judgement and the wide range of formal and informal assessments that are used in each school. Catholic education supports the importance of the National Assessment Program and its continual refinement.
Personal Development and Health
The information provided each week allows for discussion about the content covered in Personal Development lessons each week.

September 1 2022: World Day of Prayer For Creation
Loving God who hears every voice, knows each cry of injustice, and is attentive to the suffering of the earth: teach us to listen. Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may listen to the world you have created and not close ourselves off from it. Reveal to us the ways in which we have failed to hear your voice in how we treat the earth. God, who listens to every living thing, helps us to listen as you do.
Amen.
We pray for our Year 3 students who will make their First Holy Communion over the coming weeks.
Lord Jesus Christ, bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time. May this day be the step toward a life-long love of the Eucharist.
Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship. Thank you for their innocence and goodness.
May their hands, extended in anticipation of your body and blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred Sacrament. Amen.
On the 30 August a talented group of Year 5 and 6 girls represented Good Samaritan at the NSWCPS Netball Gala Day. The girls showed fantastic sportsmanship, amazing netball skills and worked extremely well as a team. They played against many talented teams and finished the day second in their division. Thank you to Miss Georgia Burley who was our team umpire for the day. Hope, Bonnie, Annie, Holly, Ella, Darcie, Lucia, Maude, Bella and Macy should all be congratulated and proud of their efforts. Well done girls!
This R U OK? DAY, GSFM are inviting everyone to start a meaningful conversation, and shine a light on mental health and wellbeing.
As a school community we will acknowledge and support R U OK?Day on Thursday 8 September 2022. This day will be incorporated into our term PB4L Day. R U OK? Day is a national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, ‘are you OK?’
Students are encouraged to wear yellow themed mufti ensuring they have appropriate clothing and covered in shoes.
During this day we will also be celebrating the great things we do at Good Samaritan and participating in activities in our grades focusing on our whole school behaviour expectations in the classroom and on the playground.
From the School Handbook:
Being Considerate of Confidentiality
At times there may be incidents within the school that involve certain students and you may hear about them through other parents. These may relate to another child’s progress and learning or their behaviour. It is most important that the confidentiality of that student, and of his or her family, is protected. Always treat such incidents with empathy – no one would like their own child to be the topic of discussion amongst parents. If you have some specific concerns that relate to your own child please do not hesitate to address these through the classroom teacher, Stage Middle Leader, Mrs Hailstone or Mrs Sillis.
P&F Meeting: Monday 17 October 7pm
