Dear Parents and Carers of Good Samaritan,
Good Samaritan has been engaged in the complex task of rewriting our Vision and Mission to better suit the school's alignment to Benedictine Values.
The original Vision and Mission, whilst fit for purpose when the amalgamation between St Francis Xavier's and St John Vianney's occurred, no longer provides specificity around what we aim for and what we do on a daily basis. After ongoing discussions and consultation, I am delighted to present to you our renewed Vision and mission for Good Samaritan Catholic Primary School:
Our Vision:
Encountering Jesus and celebrating learning.
Our Mission:
We are committed to creating an inclusive and compassionate community where faith and learning are nurtured. We live by the core Benedictine values of Stewardship, Hospitality, Community and Love of Christ and Neighbour.
Our school Musical, held last Thursday evening, was an outstanding success. Our students performed brilliantly, and were so proud of themselves. I extend my thanks to Mrs Jenny Jancetic for her vision and talent in bringing this wonderful event to fruition. I extend a huge thank you to Andrew Craig for giving the Acknowledgement of Country with his son Xavier and for playing the didgeridoo, and to Alison and Michael McCarthy who played the flute and guitar to accompany the choir.
I also thank our parents and visitors for your generosity in supporting St Vincent DePaul. We raised $522.30 - an amount that will be put to very good use to support those in our community who are experiencing difficult times this Winter.

Condolences
I extend the condolences of our school community to Mrs Cecilia Medina, our Library School Support Officer, on the passing of her husband, Juan Medina.
Please keep Cecilia in your prayers at this difficult time.
Eternal light grant upon him, oh Lord,
May he rest in peace
Amen
Mrs Lisa Tyson
Acting Principal
FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S DESK:
Semester One reports will be made available via compass to parents on Monday 24 June.
Parent Teacher Interviews will take place during the weekly period of Wednesday 26 June - Wednesday 3 July. Bookings are available via compass for interviews. Students are invited to attend these interviews, especially those in Years 3-6.
NAPLAN
Students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 participated in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) during Term 1. A NAPLAN individual student report will be provided for your child early in Term 3. The same report format is used for every student in Australia.
NAPLAN results are reported against proficiency standards. There is a standard for each assessment area at each year level. Proficiency standards provide clear information on student achievement. Student achievement is shown against 4 levels of proficiency:
- Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
- Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
If your child participated in 2024 and does not receive a report by Friday 2 August, contact the school office.
Have you voted yet? You can vote once every day!

Assistant Principal

Benedictine Values at Good Samaritan

Many thanks to the GSFM P & F, the Year 1 families and staff for their concern, kind wishes and very thoughtful gifts. I was most overwhelmed by your kindness and greatly appreciate that I am blessed to work with such a beautiful community of people.
Mrs Deborah Hutton
What a fantastic turnout for our Very Musical Evening! Thank you to all the families for giving up your Thursday evening last week, for your help and support in the lead up to the concert, and for preparing the children on the night. I couldn’t have been prouder of all of the students- they worked so hard towards giving the very best of themselves. It was beautiful to see their excitement before, during and after their performances! Congratulations to all of our wonderful students on working together to create something special.
Special thanks to Andrew Craig and Xavier, for their beautiful Acknowledgement of Country, and to Michael and Alison McCarthy for accompanying the children who sang the Acknowledgement of Country song. Thank you so much to our Good Samaritan staff, for a huge collaborative effort in bringing the concert together for our children and their families.
Special mention to Noah and Hudson from Year 6, and Maya and Zoe from Year 5, who were our hosts for the evening. They did an outstanding job, especially considering they were handed their scripts on Thursday morning!!
We have had lots of requests about getting copies of video footage from the night. This is in the works! Stay tuned for more information.

From the School Handbook:
2024 NCCD Moderation
At Good Samaritan Fairy Meadow, we are dedicated to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all our students. As part of our commitment, we actively participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). This process plays a crucial role in ensuring that students with disabilities receive the appropriate support and resources they need to succeed.
What is the NCCD?
The NCCD is an annual data collection that all Australian schools contribute to. It involves identifying students who receive adjustments due to a disability, documenting the support provided, and collecting data on the level of adjustment and category of disability. This data helps schools, education authorities, and the government to understand the educational needs of students with disabilities and to allocate resources effectively.
Why is Moderation Important?
Moderation is a key part of the NCCD process. It ensures that the data collected is consistent, reliable, and accurately reflects the support provided to students. Through moderation, schools can compare and discuss their data collection processes and judgments, leading to more consistent and equitable outcomes for students across different schools and regions.
How Does Moderation Work?
During moderation, teachers and members of our leadership team come together to review and discuss the data they have collected. This collaborative process involves:
- Reviewing Personalised Plans: Our moderation team read through the Personalised Plans of students who receive adjustments, detailing the type and level of support provided.
- Comparing Judgments: Members of the team compare their judgments to ensure consistency in the classification of adjustments and disabilities.
- Making Recommendations: Providing recommendations to colleagues around the adjustments students are receiving and how these are recorded.
Benefits of NCCD Moderation
- Consistency in Data: Ensures that all schools apply the same standards when identifying and documenting adjustments for students with disabilities.
- Improved Support: Helps educators learn from each other, leading to better support strategies and resources for students.
- Informed Decision-Making: Provides valuable insights that inform policy and funding decisions at the school, regional, and national levels.
- Equity and Inclusion: Promotes fairness and equity in the education system, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to thrive.
At Good Samaritan, we are proud to be part of the NCCD moderation process. It reflects our commitment to high standards of teaching and support for all students. By working together with other educators and sharing our experiences, we continue to improve our practices and contribute to a more inclusive education system for everyone.
