Dear Parents and Carers of Good Samaritan,
As we continue the season of Lent, we are invited to consider the ways in which we prepare for the greatest time of the Church year - Easter. Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, and for doing so with quiet humility. It is a time for us to practice good habits and to become more Christ-like in our interactions with others and with our world. All students at Good Samaritan are learning about Lent in their Religious Education lessons. I invite you to engage in conversations with your child/ren so that they can share their knowledge with you, and to share time in prayer with your child during Lent, perhaps in attendance at one of the Masses at St John Vianney’s:
Sunday |
Mass: 8.30am |
|
Mass: 10am (Italian) |
|
Mass: 4.30pm (Vietnamese) |

THANKYOU:
On behalf of the staff and students at Good Samaritan, I would like to extend a huge vote of thanks to Mrs Maddison and Mr Erick Zevallos for building our new sandpit. Maddie and Erick are the parents of Jack in Year 2 and Austin in Kindergarten and we are looking forward to the years of enjoyment that the sand pit will bring. Once processes, procedures and timetables are prepared, the students will be able to use the new addition.

Kindergarten Welcome & Year 6 BBQ:
One of the great traditions of Good Samaritan is the Kindergarten and Year 6 Welcome BBQ. This is an opportunity for all Kindergarten parents to come along and meet more friends whilst also meeting their child’s Year 6 buddy and parents.
The BBQ will be held on Wednesday 28 February from 5:30pm-7pm.
PROJECT COMPASSION
Should you wish to contribute to Project Compassion this Lent Season, here is the QR code for our school. Donations above $2 will generate receipts and all donations will count in our school's fundraising tally.

News from Year 1 Classrooms
Year 1 students have had a great start to the new academic year. Everyone has settled into their new class and they have reunited with old friends and made new friends too. In English, we have been reading the Australian text Our Island written by the children of Gununa together with Alison Lester and Elizabeth Honey. We have compared Mornington Island and the animals that live there to where we live.
In Mathematics we have had fun skip counting forward and backwards to 120. In Sport, we have practised running in preparation for our cross country carnival! Year 1 love to learn!.
News from Year 2 Classrooms
Year 2 has had a great start to the year! We have been revisiting our school expectations and PB4L rules. In English, we have been exploring the picture book ‘Welcome to Country’ and learning about the differences between an acknowledgement to a country and welcome to country. In mathematics we have been learning about collections of 10 and how they are useful when working with larger quantities.

Year 2 students have been very busy in Visual Arts creating amazing self-portraits. The portraits have helped the children learn more about their own self identity and about each other. Fostering a sense of welcome and belonging within our classroom is vital, helping all students feel valued, safe and happy in their learning environment.
