News from Year 1 Classrooms
Year 1 students have had a great start to the new academic year. Everyone has settled into their new class and they have reunited with old friends and made new friends too. In English, we have been reading the Australian text Our Island written by the children of Gununa together with Alison Lester and Elizabeth Honey. We have compared Mornington Island and the animals that live there to where we live.
In Mathematics we have had fun skip counting forward and backwards to 120. In Sport, we have practised running in preparation for our cross country carnival! Year 1 love to learn!.
News from Year 2 Classrooms
Year 2 has had a great start to the year! We have been revisiting our school expectations and PB4L rules. In English, we have been exploring the picture book ‘Welcome to Country’ and learning about the differences between an acknowledgement to a country and welcome to country. In mathematics we have been learning about collections of 10 and how they are useful when working with larger quantities.

Year 2 students have been very busy in Visual Arts creating amazing self-portraits. The portraits have helped the children learn more about their own self identity and about each other. Fostering a sense of welcome and belonging within our classroom is vital, helping all students feel valued, safe and happy in their learning environment.
