Acknowledgement of Country:
Good Samaritan Catholic Primary School Fairy Meadow acknowledges and pays respect to the Dharawal and Gweagal people past and present, the traditional custodians of the lands on which our school is built.
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone had a restful holiday and some time to connect with family and friends. Students returned today and arrived ready to learn. There was great excitement to reconnect with classmates and teachers.
The last few Sundays have recounted the road to Emmaus in Luke’s Gospel. This story highlights our own uncertainty and concerns as we share the anxiety of the two disciples as they travel along the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus. In the disciples' darkest moments on this journey, Jesus reaches out and connects with them where they are at that time.
After spending quality time with Jesus they recognise him and are filled with hope and comfort.
Our hope as a Catholic community is to recognise our Christ walking behind us, beside us and with us. This knowledge that we are never alone can hopefully fill us with hope and comfort.
Mothers’ Day Liturgy & Breakfast
We would like to extend a very special invitation to our mothers, grandmothers, aunties, godmothers and all the special women in our school community to attend our annual Mother's Day morning breakfast on Friday 12 May at 8:15am in the hall. This will be followed by a Liturgy at 9.15am in the church.
Winter Uniform
At Good Samaritan, the Winter Uniform is worn the week following Mother’s day through to the Friday prior to Father’s Day each year. This year's Winter uniform is worn from Monday 15 May.
Parents may use their discretion for the week on either side of these dates based on the weather.
From the Assistant Principal's Desk:
We welcome you back to Term 2. The start of each term is a great time to refresh and reset our minds. Just a few little “housekeeping”reminders.
- uniform-please ensure students are in the correct uniform (this includes haircuts/styles and hair tied back)
- labelling- please label your child’s belongings so we can return them when found. This is the most common way items are lost.
- Be ready- encourage your child to share in the responsibility of getting ready for school, this encourages a “be ready to learn” attitude.
Be Bus Aware
With students returning to school for Term 2, it is timely for a reminder about buses. It is important for all stakeholders of a school community to be aware of what is needed to ensure the safety of all on school buses. By raising the awareness of being safe around buses we help to reduce the risk of injuries and facilities. Please also be aware that students can be refused and returned to the office if they do not have an Opal card. This is not a school rule but a bus company rule and completely out of our control.

Year 6 will represent our school on Friday 28 April at McCabe Park, Wollongong. We look forward to hearing about this special event in next week’s newsletter. Whole School Expectation - Weekly Focus for Students
This week our whole school focus is on using manners in the classrooms. Our teachers will be helping children learn appropriate, polite and considerate behavior. Manners are a good way to show gratitude, display respect, and demonstrate kindness.
The wearing of the correct school uniform is very important at Good Samaritan Catholic Primary School as it creates a greater sense of equality among the student population despite the diverse socio-economic backgrounds of their families.
The following are some basic guidelines for following the expectations associated with wearing the correct school uniform at Good Samaritan:
- All students are to wear the full, correct uniform at all times.
- Uniforms are to be labelled, cleaned, pressed, properly repaired and worn neatly at all times.
- Damaged or shabby items of uniform are to be replaced.
- School uniform regulations apply equally to hair, jewellery, make-up (including false fingernails), hats and shoes.
- Classroom teachers are responsible for checking uniform on a daily basis.
- Where a uniform breach occurs a verbal reminder/warning is given.
- If a repetition of uniform breaches occurs, parents will be contacted by way of letter.
- Students out of uniform, who have a valid reason, should have a note to this effect, signed by their parents. This is to be counter-signed by the classroom teacher.
- For extreme breaches of the uniform code, a student may be isolated from the rest of the school.
- Where genuine financial difficulties hamper a student in fully meeting all uniform requirements, the Principal may supply items of uniform at the school’s expense.
Basis of Discretion
- Discretion may be used when a student is out of uniform on the first occasion.
- The Principal has the right to waver uniform requirements in special circumstances.
Of particular note are hairstyles. Current popular hairstyles include the ‘mullet’. This is not an acceptable hairstyle for school. Please note the section of the policy regarding hairstyles, jewellery and nail art.
Students are welcome to start to wear winter uniform commencing term 2 or welcome to wear summer uniform on warmer days. All students are to wear Full winter uniform commencing Monday 15th May 2023.
