EASTER TRIDUUM
In Holy Week the Church remembers that Jesus, in being faithful to his mission, suffered and was crucified. We acknowledged the events of Holy Thursday as a school community today.
Triduum is a word that means “three days.” The Easter Triduum begins on Holy Thursday evening, April 6, 2023, and ends on Easter Sunday evening, April 9. The Triduum is a total of three consecutive days from sunset to sunset. The three days of the Triduum are the most important days of the liturgical year.
On Holy Thursday, we recall Christ’s giving of his Body and Blood at the Last Supper.
On Good Friday, we remember that Jesus Christ suffered and died.
On Holy Saturday, we reflect and pray about Jesus’ death and then celebrate the Easter Vigil through special prayers and rituals.
During Triduum we hear the Gospel accounts of the Last Supper and the Passion of Christ. The Scripture readings during the Easter Vigil encourage us to meditate on the wonderful things God has done for his people from the beginning.
We hope that the Easter break and upcoming holidays will be an opportunity for well-deserved rest and rejuvenation in preparation for a new school term. We wish you every Easter blessing as you celebrate with your family and friends. If travelling we pray that you will remain safe and we look forward to seeing you all again straight after ANZAC day.
Thank you for your support and engagement during Term 1.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY
As previously advised, Monday 24 April 2023 is a staff development day.
Students do not attend school on this day. This day is a day of Professional Learning for staff.
Students will begin Term 2 on Wednesday 26 April.
STAFFING UPDATE
Mrs Toni Duggan is taking leave during Term 2 and 3 this year. We wish her a wonderful break with her family.
BELL TIMES
As outlined in last weeks newsletter, the bell times are as follows:
8:45am - first bell
2:55pm - final bell
3:00pm - car lines begin.
This is to maximise daily learning time. Students arriving after 8:45am will be directed to the office for a late note. Gates will not open before 2:55pm for dismissal.
Thank you for your support with punctuality and expectations around this.
SAFER ROUTES TO SCHOOL
Traffic and Transport around schools is a high priority for our school and Wollongong City Council. Please be assured that we share the priority for safety and are working towards an improved network for community members and visitors of all ages and abilities to enjoy.
A Safer Routes to School Working Group will be established with Council engineers, planners, Council’s Road Safety Officer, The Principal & a P&C representative. The role of this group is to inform the school community of existing road safety education programs and support schools with respect to transport around schools; to develop short, medium, and long term plans which improve safety around schools, promote public transport and encourage walking and cycling to schools.
This initiative will be raised at our next P&C meeting to ensure that we have consistency and an agreed approach to transport planning around our schools.
Year 6 Polos
We have some very excited and smart looking year 6 students who are proudly wearing their Good Samaritan Sports Polos. Many thanks to ACEIT Wollongong who were a pleasure to work with and very patient with our frequent requests and emails to fit and size 73 students.

With Thanks,
Catherine Hailstone
Update from Kindergarten
The Kindergarten students have certainly settled into the school and classroom routines and have been enjoying being part of the Good Samaritan school community with activities such as the Harmony Day Liturgy and Welcome BBQ. The students also really enjoy time with their Year Six Buddies.
In English we are learning to recognise and blend sounds as we embark on the reading journey. We have also enjoyed listening to stories such as Pig the Pug and Thelma the Unicorn.
During Maths, we have been practicing how to form numbers and the properties of numbers 1 to 10.
WEN Primary News
On Friday 24th March Yr 6 students Holly, Ella, Harry and Lola joined primary students from across CEDoW at Our Lady Help of Christians School, Rosemeadow for the Wollongong Environmental Network Day (WEN). They listened to ideas from four schools that shared their environmental journey. Students discussed various ways to improve sustainability at Good Samaritan such as the re-introduction of Waste - Free Days and awareness of electrical waste.
Every student had the chance to make a no-sew bag (from a T-shirt) and listen to a guest speaker from PlasticOceans Australia. They completed the day being commissioned as Eco Ambassadors for their schools.
NSWCPS State Swimming Championships
Congratulations to Chase W, Madix B and Angus B for representing the Mackillop team at the NSWCPS swimming championships last Thursday. They gave 100% effort and represented our school with pride. We are very proud of you boys. Well done!
GSFM CROSS COUNTRY
Last week GSFM gathered at West Dapto for our cross country carnival. It was a fantastic day with all of our students putting in their best efforts in the competitive and non competitive races. Congratulations to you all on your efforts, especially in the muddy conditions. You should be very proud of yourselves.
Special thanks to all the parent volunteers for their support during the day. We really could not hold these events without you. A big thank you to Kembla Joggers, especially Noel for setting up the course and being on hand throughout the day for additional help. We greatly appreciate the support.
Congratulations to the following children who placed in the top 3 of their respective age groups and have been selected for the Good Samaritan Cross Country team to compete at the Diocesan Carnival in Nowra on Tuesday, May 2nd.
