RETURN TO TERM 3
MONDAY 20 JULY 2020
PARENT INFORMATION
The staff of Good Samaritan is looking forward to welcoming students back for Term 3 on Monday 20 July. Good Samaritan is still operating in Phase 3 of COVID-19 restrictions so the following information for parents and carers is aimed to assist the school in managing the return to term 3 within the restriction guidelines.
Mrs Sillis
Principal
Morning drop off and school attendance
Morning drop off to school will remain the same. Carlines remains the school’s preferred safest and easiest mode of dropping off at school. Parents are not to enter the school grounds. Staff will be at office/Library stairs area to greet the children returning to school. Gates will be unlocked at 8:20am when supervision begins.
Please note that students will go straight to their classrooms upon the 8:45am bell. Therefore, students must be on the playground prior to this time. Please be punctual, as gates will be locked shortly after the 8:50am bell.
There are changes to afternoon dismissal car lines
Car lines remain the safest and most efficient way to drop off and pick up students.
Afternoon car lines will begin at 3:00pm.
Please observe all traffic regulations when entering the school grounds including no right turn into or out of the Parish carpark. Should the line be extending beyond the carpark please drive around the block to avoid any traffic jams onto Cabbage Tree Lane and the Princes Highway.
Dismissal for bus lines, OOSH and walkers remains the same.
PARENT PICK UP:
- All parent pick up will continue to take place in Cram Park on the corner of McGrath St and Cabbage Tree Lane
- Students will be supervised safely across the road by a teacher of their grade
- Parents are asked to wait on the perimeter of the park until all students have crossed to the park
- Parents are asked to allow time for teachers to settle the students before collecting them
- Staff will work to be dismissing students on time at 3pm in Cram Park
- Students will be asked to indicate to the supervising teacher who is picking them up
- Parents are asked to always be considering social distancing whilst in the park
On days of wet weather the following is asked of parents and carers:
- enter the grounds via McGrath St gate and walk directly to your child’s classroom (Year 3 will be under the COLA parents are asked not to be on the stairs)
- the teacher will direct children to their parent/carer
- Parents must leave the grounds immediately and not gather on the school grounds at all
- Parents and students exit the school grounds via Cabbage Tree Lane gate
- All parents should have exited the grounds by 3:10pm
- Staff will be asking any remaining parents to leave the grounds beyond 3:10pm
Organisation for carlines, bus, OOSH and walkers remains the same in wet weather
All students should be wearing full Winter uniform on Monday 20 July.
Uniform Shop:
In order to manage the physical distancing requirements, parents will continue to make appointments at the uniform shop to purchase uniforms. This can be done through the Compass.
If you would like to place an order with the uniform shop an order form has been added to the school website under parents/uniform. Please complete the form and return with payment to the school office. These orders will be filled on uniform shop days.

Students presenting unwell at school
The first symptoms of COVID-19 and ‘flu are similar, in that they both can cause fever, cough, sore/scratchy throat and shortness of breath.
Parents are asked to keep children at home if they are unwell. In the event your child is unwell at school the normal processes apply: Your child will be cared for at school in the sick bay by a qualified first aid officer, while they await collection from an appropriate parent/guardian/carer.
Schools have Personal Protective Equipment in order to support students and staff. The student will be provided with a medical mask to reduce the risk of transmitting droplets or respiratory fluids. The first aid officer who is assisting the student will also be wearing a medical mask and gloves. The student’s temperature will be taken using a non-contact thermometer to assess severity of presenting symptoms (note that regardless of the child’s temperature, all students who present unwell will be sent home).
When the parent/guardian/carer of the student collects their child from school, a letter will be provided to them, which outlines the steps required for the student to be able to return to school. These steps include gaining a medical clearance certificate and only returning to school once the student has fully recovered.
Adjustments to school timetable
In Term 3 the school will resume the regular timetable in order to accommodate the full delivery of the curriculum.
The school Canteen now operates each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. From Term 3 the Canteen will be opening for breakfast from 8:20am.
Assemblies and Principal Awards
Weekly school assemblies will be held each Friday afternoon at 2:30pm. The assemblies will include:
- School Prayer
- Acknowledgement of Country
- National Anthem
- Principal’s Message
- School Messages
- Principal Awards (on designated dates)
- School Song
With current COVID-19 restrictions parents are unable to attend the assemblies.
All students need to bring a refillable water bottle to school. The school no longer has
any bubblers. These have all been replaced with taps.
Students will continue to participate in Sports lessons on the designated day for their grade. Appropriate hygiene and distancing measures will be put into place through these lessons.
Please note: All school and Diocesan sporting events have been cancelled.
Ongoing communication between school and home remains essential. The school aims to work in partnership with the home and recognises that parents wish to be informed about their child’s progress and behaviour. Likewise, there is a need for parents to keep the school informed of any events that may impact on the life of their child at school. Teachers will always respond to phone messages and emails in a timely manner.
