Good Samaritan Catholic Primary School Fairy Meadow acknowledges and pays respect to the Dharawal and Gweagal people past and present, the traditional custodians of the lands on which our school is built.
Dear Parents and Carers of Good Samaritan,
As we come to the end of Term 2, I wish to extend my thanks to all the school community for the outstanding school spirit that has been displayed in the many faith, learning and extra-curricular events that have occurred this term. I especially extend my thanks to the committed and talented staff members who have made all of it possible for our students and families.
Our Year 6 students received the Sacrament of Confirmation and our Year 3 students have commenced preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Mother’s Day was celebrated by a breakfast, liturgy and gift stall. Our students excelled in the school musical, and we entered three choirs in the BlueScope Eisteddfod, winning second, third and fourth places! Good Samaritan entered the Wave FM School of the Year Competition and made it to the top 3, displaying a level of creativity and fun that was awe-inspiring. We extend our congratulations to Nazareth, Shellharbour, for winning the 2024 competition. The gala days saw our students displaying excellent skills and sportsmanship, representing Good Samaritan with pride.
The outstanding explicit teaching of reading in our classrooms is having a positive impact on the development of reading fluency across all year groups. All teachers have been engaged in rich professional learning opportunities to explore data, set goals and plan for ongoing student improvement. The revised 3-6 English and Mathematics syllabus’, and the revised K-2 English and Mathematics syllabus’ have also been the focus of collaborative learning amongst staff during the term.
On Tuesday 2nd July, our Vice Captains, Jasmine I and James S, accompanied me to the blessing and opening of the Colin Learning Centre, refurbished student and staff facilities and new General Learning Area Classrooms at Holy Spirit College, Bellambi. This building project provides contemporary facilities and resources that will benefit all Good Samaritan students who attend Holy Spirit College in future years.

I am looking forward to Term 3, where we will continue to live our vision and mission throughout our wonderful school community:
Our Vision:
Encountering Jesus and celebrating learning.
Our Mission:
We are committed to creating an inclusive and compassionate community where faithand learning are nurtured. We live by the core Benedictine values of Stewardship, Hospitality, Community and Love of Christ and Neighbour.
Mrs Lisa Tyson
Acting Principal
FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S DESK:
Parent Teacher Interviews
We would like to thank our parent community for the active participation and invaluable partnership during the recent Parent-Teacher Interviews. Your commitment and collaboration play a crucial role in the success and development of our students.
The conversations and feedback shared during these meetings are essential in fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for our children. Together, we continue to work towards providing the best educational experience for our students, grounded in our shared values and faith.
School Assemblies
During the recent ‘Tell them from Me’ survey the need for minimal disruptions to learning time was highlighted. One immediate response to this feedback is to hold whole school assemblies fortnightly instead of weekly.
Starting next term our school assemblies will be held fortnightly during odd weeks, starting at 2:10pm in the hall. Assemblies will be held in Week 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Principal Awards will be handed out in Week 7 next term.
Mrs Catherine Hailstone
Assistant Principal
THE NEWLY BAPTISED
Congratulations to Fernando Quintero (Year 2) who has been recently Baptised in our parish.
May the Sacrament of baptism bring joy, peace, and blessings to his parents, godparents, family and friends. May God's grace guide and protect them.

Year 3 First Holy Communion Commitment Mass
Year 3 Candidates for the sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion came together and joined our SJV parishioners on Sunday 30 June and made their commitment to the beginning of their journey towards receiving the sacraments. Please remember our year 3 students and their families in your prayers as they begin this process of learning and praying.

Grandparents and Great People Day (Feast of Joachim and Anne)
Please join us on Friday 26 July (week 1) as we celebrate Grandparents and Great People Day on the feast of Sts Joachim and Anne (Jesus’ grandparents) at SJV at 9.15am.
Morning tea will follow in the hall (ADULTS ONLY) and open classrooms will be available.
Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal
Donations
The theme of this year's St. Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal is "The Working Homeless."
Due to the severe lack of affordable housing and the growing demand for rental properties in Australia, even those who are employed are finding it increasingly difficult to secure a place to live. As a result, more Australians are being forced into homelessness, creating a troubling rise in what is now known as "the working homeless."
For individuals experiencing homelessness, meeting basic needs such as food, water, and a safe place to sleep becomes a daily struggle. Sadly, this is the harsh reality for many Australians, including those with jobs.
How can we help? During winter, material donations such as food, warm clothing, and blankets are especially needed. We greatly appreciate your contributions of the following items to support those in need within our local community.
Please keep the following in mind: To maintain the dignity of those receiving the donations, ensure all food items have an expiration date of at least six months from now. All donated items must be non-perishable and undamaged. Look for packaged foods with a Health Star Rating.
Your generosity can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those struggling to meet their basic needs, despite being employed. Thank you for your support.
Please bring your donations to school by Term 3 Friday Week 3.
