Thank You to:
- our committed P&F who organised a terrific Trivia Night last Friday night. A great time was had by all who were able to attend. All funds raised will help to contribute toward air conditioning our school
- our Year 6 teachers: Mrs Malady, Mr Ambrosi, Mr Condon, Mrs Henessy and Mrs Copas for organising and attending the Year 6 camp last week. The students had a wonderful time - coming home filled with many stories and life long memories. Staff who attend these opportunities for the children rearrange their own family lives and this is very much appreciated.
- to all Good Samaritan staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the semester to improve their teaching always striving to meet the needs of students.
- to all parents and carers who demonstrate commitment to Good Samaritan by making sure that their children are ready to learn each and every day - it is very much appreciated!
Enjoy a restful holiday break with your children. I look forward to coming to know more of our parent community as we enter Semester 2.
Adjustments to Staffing:
Mrs Smithers is currently on long service leave and will return to work on Monday 29 July. During this period Mrs Kate Jennett will fulfil the role of Acting Assistant Principal and Mrs Jenny Mitrevski will teach Year 5.
Mrs Tania McRobert will continue to work with Year 2 Red in Term 3 and Mrs Brannonberg will be taking classes for Music lessons as timetabled across the school.
SPB4L:

This week we are remembering to value:
Qualities that reflect our school ethos:
‘We are a Catholic community, inclusive and compassionate, promoting quality learning, journeying with Jesus, drawing all into the heart of God
Focusing on our Sports Carnival:
Sports Carnivals are always lots of fun. When the whole school goes out together for an event such as this it is really important that everyone works together to help the day run smoothly. All Good Samaritan classes have been taught the expectations for the carnival. These are shared for all parents and spectators who are coming to enjoy the day with us at Beaton Park.
NAIDOC WEEK:
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.
The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
The children of Good Samaritan would like to share with you some of their artwork in recognition of NAIDOC Week 2019. Please visit the school hall after our Liturgy on Friday or in week 1 next term before school on Wednesday and Thursday or after school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.
To ensure consistency of processes and practices across the school community, aspects of the Parent Handbook (currently under revision) will be published in each week’s newsletter.
Supporting Student Learning: Replenishing Equipment for the New School Term
As we approach the upcoming holidays parents are asked to ensure that their child’s pencil case and school supplies are replenished. Having everything at their fingertips each day aids in the learning process allowing children to focus on the task at hand rather than worrying about not having the equipment to complete the task.
Also, as we approach Semester 2 it is important that the students continue to wear full school uniform until the end of the year. It may be a good idea to check your child’s uniform, including school hat, school shoes and joggers, to make sure that they will all ‘last the distance’. This is particularly important for Year 6 students.
Parent Action: Check that your child’s school equipment is replenished. Make sure that students’ equipment and uniform are clearly labelled.
Why have a School Newsletter?
The school newsletter/bulletin is the major form of consistent communication between the school and parents/carers. The newsletter is the means by which the school acknowledges all that is done within classrooms at the grade, class or individual level, on playgrounds and within the community.
It is also an opportunity for me, as Principal, to reflect on our community and how we can work toward further improving all that we do. As a Catholic school principal it is most important that this is done within the context of our faith, hence the references that are written to the Sunday Mass readings, theological reflections or information about spirituality. This is one aspect that works toward to keeping our charism as a Catholic school alive.
The newsletter is the place from which the school is able to ensure that parents, and the community, have a good understanding of the processes and procedures of the school. This is done through reminders, excerpts from the School Handbook, publication of School Policies etc. Some may feel that this is unnecessary but in any school it is most important that we maintain as much consistency as possible. This helps to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all within the school.
For some parents the newsletter is the only contact that they have with the school. This may be due to work commitments or to family/personal circumstances so the newsletter has to cover a wide audience hence, some parents may feel that certain aspects of the newsletter may not be needed or be relevant. However, they may just be aspects that are of great relevance to another parent or family.
I continue to encourage parents to read the newsletter regularly to know what is happening within the school.
