Thank You:
As we approach the end of Term 1, I would like to express my thanks for the welcome I have received into the Good Samaritan community. The parents and staff of our community are wonderfully supportive and generous. Not only this, but our students are just wonderful. I find them so open, happy and willing to co-operate on so many levels. This has been displayed through our attempts to ensure that we have ‘student voice’ in the work that we do with SPB4L. These students have particularly demonstrated the importance of working as a whole school community.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the term and look forward to continuing the important work of developing our students in a holistic approach to their education at Good Samaritan.
CAR LINE PICK UP:
Recently, a serious accident involving one of the supervising teachers was narrowly avoided on car line pick up. However, the incident did leave the teacher with an injury. This has been identified as a Work Health & Safety (WH&S) hazard that is associated with staff opening and closing the doors of cars at car line pick up.
From next term, supervising staff will not be opening and/or closing car doors. Their duty will be to ensure that the student/s reach the car safely. This will mean that students will need to be able to independently open the car door, put their bag into the car, climb into the car and close the door before the driver safely leaves the car park. Parents will not be able to get out of the car to do this as it will slow the process down and create a further hazard out into the traffic of Cabbage Tree Lane.
The school will be placing markings and signage to identify the safest areas for drop off each morning and pick up each afternoon.
Thank you for your understanding that everyone’s safety needs to be considered at Good Samaritan.
Parent Action: Parents are asked to ensure that their child/ren can independently open the car door, put their bag into the car before entering the car and closing the door. If your child may experience difficulty doing this then you will need to consider alternative pick up arrangements.
When do students start to wear Winter uniform?
As the weather starts to cool in Term 2, parents may be use their discretion in having students wear the Winter uniform. However, all students will be expected to wear their full Winter uniform from the week beginning 13 May 2019.
Parent Action: Parents are asked to ensure that students are dressed in the full Winter uniform from the week beginning 13 May 2019.

The value for week 11 is Perseverance:
Students who show perseverance:
- Keep trying when things get tough
- Work through and face difficult challenges
Our Focus for this week is:
Using the toilet area respectfully, safely and responsibly |
||
What can our students do to support this focus? |
What can our teachers do to support this focus? |
What can our parents & carers do to support this focus? |
Make sure the toilet area is kept clean by making sure that the toilets are flushed and no toilet paper is being used incorrectly.
Wash your hands after going to the toilet. Use one pump of soap to wash your hands and rinse them with water. Try not to use too much soap and be wasteful.
Remember the toilets are not a play area.
|
Over the road teachers can go straight to the toilet block to make sure they are being used safely, respectfully and responsibly.
Teachers can give tokens to students who are washing their hands properly and being responsible at the toilets.
|
Parents can be reminding children and practising how to wash their hands properly at home.

Good Samaritan Band Program
Good Samaritan are introducing a new Band programme which will be run by Mr Andy Yule of Yule Music. Click here to find out more about Yule Music.
The programme is going to be available for years 3 -6 inclusive. Each child who registers with the programme will receive weekly instrumental tutoring AND band tutoring. Our band will be given regular termly performing opportunities.
Andy Yule will be delivering an instrument presentation to students in Years 3-6 on Tuesday 9 April. Following this a letter will then be sent home explaining how you can register your child for the program.
There will then be a Parent Information Evening on Tuesday 30 April 6-7pm where Andy will explain the details of the programme in full.
We anticipate the programme to begin in week 5 or 6 of term 2. Toward the end of term 2/beginning of term 3, there will be a child-parent free workshop which will explain practice techniques to ensure your child is getting the most out of playing an instrument.
Andy is a young-retiree who started Yule Music as a hobby just a few years ago, a very professional hobby! Music is his passion which he wants to share whilst inspiring children to play an instrument - showing them how much fun it can be.
We are extremely fortunate to have Yule Music run our programme.

On Friday 5th April we were blessed with a beautiful day for our school Cross Country Carnival. All students had fun participating in the competitive or non-competitive events. The students displayed good sportsmanship and enthusiasm during the carnival.
A huge thank you to all the wonderful parents who gave their time to help support the students during the event - we feel truly grateful for the support you give. I won’t name them all, as I am unsure, I will miss someone, but THANK YOU!
Congratulations to the competitors in each race and to all the students who placed in their age races.
