As part of our school wide commitment to address bullying in schools, this Friday, our school will take part in Bullying No Way! Day, Australia’s national initiative to foster safe, inclusive learning environments and remind everyone that bullying is never okay.
This year’s theme, “Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.”, encourages students to stand up for others, show kindness every day, and use their voice to support their peers. In the middle session, students will take part in stage-based activities, designed to be engaging and age-appropriate, to build empathy, understanding, and respect. In the afternoon, we will gather for a liturgy to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption, reflecting on Mary’s example of faith, courage, and compassion.
We believe it is important to be part of this initiative because every child has the right to feel safe, respected, and valued at school. Together, we can create a place where kindness is shown, voices are heard, and everyone belongs. We have spoken to many families and kids on what we as educators can do to best support you, as well as build a culture that feels safe enough for anyone to stand up to behaviours that can be harmful to others.
Our motto for the day: Walk with kindness and compassion, as Mary did.
