Dear Parents and Caregivers,

One of the most crucial factors in achieving growth in faith, learning and wellbeing development is consistent school attendance. When students are present in the classroom, they have the opportunity to engage with their teachers and peers, participate in valuable discussions, and absorb the material being taught. Regular school attendance is foundational for a child's overall development and achievement.

Regular late arrivals and early departures can also be detrimental to a child’s education. When a child arrives late, they miss the crucial beginning of the school day, which often sets the stage for the day’s learning. Similarly, leaving early disrupts their ability to fully engage with the material and participate in all aspects of school life.

Regular attendance not only promotes academic success but also instills a sense of responsibility and discipline. By encouraging your child to arrive on time and stay for the full school day, you are helping them develop essential life skills that will benefit them in their future education and careers.

I fully understand that family holidays are important for creating lasting memories and bonding experiences. However, it is essential to consider the impact of taking time off school during term time. If you are planning a trip, please remember that it is necessary to apply for approval for holidays taken during school hours that equate to ten school days or more. This Application for Approved Leave/Absence process will change to leave totalling five school days or more from 2025. Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong requires parents to submit a formal application prior to the holiday. It is crucial to follow these procedures to ensure your child’s absence is accounted for appropriately.

As I emphasise the importance of regular school attendance, I invite all parents to support their children in making the most of their educational journey. Encourage them to arrive on time, stay engaged, and take full advantage of the learning opportunities available. After all, when students arrive consistently, they are more likely to thrive!
