Learning and Curriculum:
News from Amaroo Gold
We have been very busy in Amaroo Gold this term.
In Religion we have been learning about what happened during the 40 days after Jesus rose from the dead . We have enjoyed the Bible story ‘The Breakfast at Lake Galilee’ (John 21:1-17). Our favourite part of the story is when Peter jumped into the water and swam to the beach to see Jesus! The rest of the disciples followed with a net full of fish behind them.

For art in Term 2 we have been creating some Easter artworks. We have been exploring some techniques such as blending colours and using pastel crayons and water paints.
We have been busy in Mathematics practising writing numbers and learning number combinations to 10 and 20.
In Science we are learning about the difference between living and non-living things.
Amaroo Gold also enjoys going to PE with Mrs Olima and learning how to run and jump over hurdles. We are getting ready for our Athletics Carnival.
News from Amaroo Blue
This week, Amaroo Blue are exploring and making 3-D shapes out of their nets to finish off their math unit on 3-D shapes. Before every math session, we are also practising our mental multiplication strategies. We are using a multiplication grid and moving towards using a conceptual approach such as recognising patterns and doubling up strategies.
Students in year 6 will continue their leadership programme this week by taking part in group activities with other year 6 students. The year 6 boys look forward to the leadership program with enthusiasm.
During science we are investigating forces. We are exploring gravity and finding ways to prevent a balloon from falling to the ground. The Class enjoyed this activity so much that we have now included balloon games into our movement breaks.
SPLICED
Yesterday, Year 6 and Year 5 students Ruby M, Ria, Ava and Patrick attended the SPLICED Workshop at St Joseph's Bulli. The theme for 2023 is "A View From Afar." There were primary students from St Columbkille's Corrimal, St Joseph's Bulli, Holy Cross Helensburgh and St Brigid's Gwynneville.
To start the day, each participant shared their topic that explained what they were working on. The ideas ranged from narratives to artworks, games and informative research. We worked on our individual projects, shared ideas and received feedback. It was an interesting learning experience and we had lots of fun.
