This term in English, Amaroo Blue students will:

explore the persuasive text type using including (but not limited to) letters to the editor, advertisements and campaign speeches. They will investigate ways different authors organise their texts and carefully use language features and visuals to engage the reader for their desired purpose. Students will learn work through a variety of activities with the aim to independently write a persuasive text using appropriate text structure, language and features. They will begin by investigating point of view in relation to a situation or issue. Students will then identify and explore the structure of persuasive texts, before identifying and exploring the language features of persuasive texts. They will explore how modal words are used to express degrees of certainty in persuasive texts and explore how persuasive devices can be used to strengthen a point of view. They will identify and use the correct paragraph structure when writing a persuasive text and use a writing prompt and scaffolding sheet to jointly construct a persuasive text. Students will learn and apply proofreading and editing skills.
