Dear Parents and Carers of Good Samaritan,
The end of term is fast approaching and as I reflect on the semester I cannot help but be grateful for all that we have achieved as a school community. As a community we have gathered together to celebrate and participate in Easter Liturgies, Mother’s Day morning tea, Confirmation, Cross Country, Swimming Carnival, Diocesan Sport Carnivals just to name a few.
In addition, the staff have worked hard to continue to improve the teaching and learning at Good Samaritan. We have been focusing on what it is about our work that ensures we are being true to our mission, we maintain consistency and, above all, we can clearly identify our impact as educators on student learning. As a school our intent is very clear - we want continuous improvement in student learning which means continuous improvement in our approaches to each key learning area identifying student needs and knowing where it is that we need to take them in the next level of learning. So, just as our children come to school each day ‘ready to learn’ our teachers come ‘ready to teach’.
What all of us bring to Good Samaritan is a variety of gifts. This includes you as parents who demonstrate support, co-operation and commitment. This week, as we enter parent teacher interviews the demonstration of that support, co-operation and commitment is clearly evident. We also see this every day as the children come into school proudly wearing their uniforms, and being ready to learn. We see it in the P&F who have worked hard in the organisation of Friday night’s Trivia Night - all to support the work we do as educators at Good Samaritan.
There are times when all of us can become impatient - wanting things to happen faster than they do, beating ourselves up about the mistake that was made at work, or saying the wrong thing to a friend or family member who became offended. I think that it is in these times of impatience that we need to remember all that we achieve as human beings working as hard as we can to get things right for those around us, and most importantly, for ourselves.
I share with you this St Francis de Sales prayer. May this take you into the coming week as a reminder of how grateful our community is that you have chosen to share your life, and that of your child, with us.
