Library news

Library News

It has been a great start in the library for 2019.  The students have begun borrowing books enthusiastically to read at home and we are beginning to continue learning to learn with the technologies available to us.

Year 5 & Year 6

In Year 5 and Year 6 we have started our Bookopoly game and a few students are uncertain about going beyond their reading comfort zone.  These students are being supported by their class teachers, support staff and library staff to be successful in this game.  The long term learning intention of this game is that we are learning to be resilient readers able to discuss and identify the genre and story elements of the stories we read.  Short term learning intentions will also include we are learning to reflect and respond to the texts we read in a variety of ways; we are learning to navigate the fiction section of the library to self-select texts that are just right books for us; we are learning to use the search function of the library catalogue.

To complete the support network is of course you the carers by checking in on your child when they are reading, giving encouraging words when you see your child making time to read.  The students were shown the following infographic that shows the benefits of reading for 20 minutes every night. They were able to identify that if they read it will help them become successful, lifelong and lifewide learners.

Years 3 & 4

Years 3 & 4 will be learning about what does it mean to be a responsible, respectful and safe digital citizen?  They are growing their understanding that when they go online they are a global citizen not just by themselves or a member of a family or a class but part of a global network of people.  It is really important that students are ready to learn during all lesson times and so could we please give a gentle reminder that the following apps will need to be added to your child’s home screen.

Apps required for learning in Years 3 - 6

  • SeeSaw
  • Google Drive
  • Google Docs
  • Google Slides
  • Google Forms
  • Google Classroom
